I'm leaving in two years for college, but I plan to take my cat with me. Can he die on the ride down?

why do u have to sedate him? does he not like cars? just put him in a cat carrier with some food, and every couple hours stop and give him some water. he should be fine but i wouldnt worry about it till the time comes. a lot of things can happen in 2 years.
