Do I HAVE to separate a colt from it's mom? (Long Question!)?

The 3 yr old is now a filly! She needs to be taken away from the mother. The mother can now become a serrogant mother to the 3.5 month old foal. Maybe bottle feed it. But make sure it has a mother to be around or other horses so it doesn't stress out to bad.
